During the school year there are many special events scheduled. Some of the highlights are listed below.
September The first days of preschool are orientation days for students. We have a very gradual introduction for the start of Nursery School. On the first day of school, the children come for one hour. On the second day of school the children stay for one and a half hours. After the orientation period regular class days begin. Our teachers are experienced in separation anxiety and help the students to feel welcome in their new surroundings.
October To celebrate Halloween, the children come to school in their costumes. There is great fun and excitement in seeing everyone in costume.
November November brings a very special event to the preschool. All of the classes participate in Someone Special Night. This is a time when a “Special Friend” (maybe mom, dad, neighbor, grandparent, family friend) comes to school in the evening with his/her nursery school child and spends time in the classroom. They make a craft together and enjoy refreshments. Also in November, the Pre-K classes learn about early America and enjoy Folktales told by storyteller, Bill Wood. Parent-Teacher conferences are held prior to the Thanksgiving vacation.
December Christmas is always an exciting time at Nursery School. The children are busy making gifts, cards and wrapping paper for their parents. Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends are invited to the special musical programs the students prepare for the Christmas parties. There is even a visit from Santa!
January Winter songs, crafts and special activities warm the classrooms while outside the snow and cold winds blow.
February Love is in the air as the children prepare for Valentine’s Day. The children make a Valentine for their parents and enjoy a Valentine Day Party with their friends.
March/April Parent-Teacher conferences are held right before Easter break. As a school-wide community we will rotate units between, transportation, zoo, farm, ocean and space. Our entire school will focus on one of these topics and then will end with a special program. Our chicken eggs will also arrive during these months. We will watch them keep warm in the incubator and anxiously await the day they will hatch into chicks.
May The classrooms are a buzz with preparations for Mother’s Day surprises. Beautiful masterpieces fill the halls and classrooms during the Enrichment Class’s Art Show. The children in this class learn about the great masters of art and then create works of art in the style of the masters. Families and friends are invited to attend the show. On the last day of school, all families are invited to school for a special party.
